Our Family Garden

This is our second year growing a garden. David built the raised beds last year. This year we tilled in the compost from over the winter and the remains of last year's growth. The children enjoyed planting the seeds.
Our first harvest were the strawberries. We planted 4 small plants last year and this year they spread to take over 1/3 of the garden bed! The berries were so huge and juicy! Better than any from the grocery store. Yum.
This year I needed more room to plant. David was quite busy with a big job this spring so he had no time to build more beds. I improvised and used what every Wife of a Painting Contractor has an abundance of, Empty 5-Gallon Paint Buckets.  They are working well for the tomatoes, peppers, potatoes and melons.
This year we have spinach, lettuce, celery, onions, beets, peas, green and yellow beans, carrots and cabbage in the beds.  We harvest several times a week.
