It's been a trip we've been wanting to make for many years. Finding out that the museum is closing this year and moving their pieces to the Worcester Art Museum gave us the kick in the pants we needed!
Not only that, the children have developed a great love for medieval fashion, warfare, and lore. Truly, this was a dream come true for the older set in the family.
We invited some dear friends to join us for the day. The children all donned their best sir coats and gowns and lost themselves in the exhibits.
I'm quite certain that everyone's favorite place was the interactive castle room where the children were able to try on armor, play medieval games, and build their own castle.
We enjoyed a picnic lunch under a shade tree near by. It was a refreshing break before we finished viewing all four floors of this nostalgic building.
Along with a live story time with the lord of the castle for the younger children and a presentation on the history of armor in the amphitheater, we also watched a few fascinating videos. One on current day jousting festivals and another of the life of Mr. Higgins and the history of the museum.
Knowing how this was a love of a man who desired to draw people into his family business made the visit bittersweet. To see a dream fade into the recesses of a past culture always makes me a little sad. Yet, I'm reminded as I looked at the steel façade of this towering building and the shine fading from the metal suits of the caution the Lord has given to us regarding the treasures of our hearts. May it be a reminder that this world has nothing that gives true value and strength.
Matthew 6:19-21
