We decided to venture off the interstate in Nebraska and take a scenic route instead through the southern part of the state. We're SO glad we did!! What a wonderful way to see the real lives and towns of the praries lands. We "happened" upon some real treasure stops as well. I just love it when those back roads lead you to such great finds!
A visit to the National Homestead Museum was wonderful. David and I both were powerfully touched by the lives and stories of these courageous people who took on the incredible challenge of building homesteads with the hopes of acquiring 160 acres of land from the U.S. government as directed by the Homestead Act. I never realized that this event reached around the world in bringing people to our nation. We were inspired and humbled by their determination, bravery, hopes, losses and victories. What an amazing time for our nation and what an impact that made on our country as a whole. As we continued to travel the prarie lands, we couldn't look at those fields without the thought of the sweat, struggles and strength of those men and women the Lord raised up to take on such a mighty challenge.
