Science Week 2012 - Grand Finale!

Headed out for a family hike today to finish up our week of Botany.

Tree frogs...

Verity was on the hunt for Bark...

Ferns, fronds, but no rhizomes...

 Mosses...

Fungi...

The remains of a structure of some sort...

Along the way we found a lovely stream that has apparantly become someone's home. A "camp" has been set up, though no one was home when we visited. ;)

The children were thinking this was a beaver dam, at first, but I'm pretty sure the human that lives here was the engineer.

This is the fire pit and cooking area of this wilderness home. Susannah is convinced that it's Survivor Man that lives here now. ;)

On our way out of the woods, we were serenaded by a pair of peregrine falcons (or at least that's what Elizabeth thinks they were) calling to one another. It was a beautiful, yet sad sound.

We enjoyed a short walk in the shady woods on a hot day. It was great to find another neat place to visit in our new community. :)
